| Sažetak: | The article deals with Begović as the translator of Dante Alighieri's 'The Divine Comedy'. In 1901, he published his petic translation of Canto XXVII of The Purgatory in the Zadar 'Narodni list'. In this, he successfully joined the ranks of 19th century Croatian translators of Dante. In his translation Begović used iambic endecasyllabic verse, but without rhyme. Tomasović compares Begović's translation to those by A. Tresić-Pavičić and V. Nazor. Begović followed Dante's original from verse to verse, with small deviations. Still, his translation shows a poetic quality, a feeling for the language and speech. Begović studied Dante, especially in 1921, on the 600th anniversary of Dante's death. Then he prepared a special issue of the 'Kritika' dedicated to the poet, with numerous contributions, and in the introduction he showed his knowledge of the subject and love for Dante. |

| Sažetak: | Begović wrote a little about the film, his work was used for a screenplay, and he also influenced the development of some tendencies in the Croatian film in the beginning of his work, but also in the beginning of the film making when the attempts were those of a beginner and yet individual. Three of his works were adapted for film: 'Adventurer at the Door', 'Without the Third' and 'Quartet'. The Czechs made a screen version of his 'American Yacht in the Split Harbour'. The fact that not many of Begović's plays were adapted for film is explained by the fear of adapting literary works for the screen in this country, by a lack of film people, and by the insufficient knowledge of the work of Croatian writers, giving preferences to the left oriented works. 'Adventurer at the Door' was one of the first adaptations of a literary play for the screen. The author therefore analyzes the director's approach to Begović's best play. And yet, the film was "average" - a reminiscence of the great writer. The other three films appeared a little later. Although they could have become really great films, they did not achieve this to the full. All this should be reconsidered. |

| Sažetak: | The article deals with the features of Begović's 'Travels in Italy' which first appeared in the Zagreb "Obzor" in 1924 and 1925, until they were published in a book in 1942. The anachronism of discourse in the book reveals the author's understanding of the poetics of travel writing and the way of its reception. The characteristics of Begović's travel discourse are examined by categories of explanation (framework), itinerary, travel subject, topic, development, lexicon (catalogue), story and the addressee. The procedures analyzed show the subject of Begović's discourse as an ingenious, experienced traveller, nonconflicting, witty hedonist in all forms, and his discourse can be conditionally determined as a historically belated form which simultaneously contains components of different literary-historical times from romanticism to modern tendencies. |

| Sažetak: | The author has taken selected works of Milan Begović to present his attitude to the Croatian traditional culture. This is particulary reflected only in some of his poems, but more in his prose work, like in the 'Quartet', the legends of the emperor Trajan, in 'Quince in the Trunk', in the drama 'God's man' and in his writings on the relationship of tradition in literature and arts, especially in the works of Ivo Vojnović and Ivan Meštrović, and particulary in his libretto for Gotovac's opera 'Ero the Joker'. In these and other works Begović greatly used the values of traditional culture, especially of his native region and incorporated them in his literary work. Closely connected with the traditions of his region, Begović improved the quality of his opus, followed the 'better' part of the folk tradition, refined and 'modernized' it, made it European with his creative touch, thus enriching his literary work. |

The first one is short and complete, having appeared in Begović's youth, the second and third one have appeared later, but are incomplete as yet. However, the author of the report is treating the third autobiography as the continuation of the second one, that is to say, he is treating them as one whole, at the same time emphasising the particularity of Begović's autobiographic discourse. There are talks of another as yet unknown Begović's autobiography, his last, voluminous and complete work. |

| Sažetak: | All'interno di una dimensione melica che, indissolubilmente avvinta alla percettivita erotica, diventa strumento tematico e formale di creazione artistica, si snoda un tessuto testuale magatico e ricco di possibilita interpretative. L'infinita allusivita del discorso narrativo e la stratifizione dell'espressivita del testo si muovono nell'ambito di una struttura testuale perfettamente simmetrica, basata sulla figura del cerchio e sull'iterabilita del numero quattro. Estremamente interessante e la funzione svolta dalla protagonista famminile, che, oltre ad essere punto di arrivo delle pulsioni erotiche degli altri tre membri del quartetto, si erge a metafora della sfera spaziale e a metonomia della dimensione destuale. L'evocazione di una sessualita di matrice freudiana e il riferimento sotteraneo a una concezione bergsoniana del tempo arricchiscono ulteriormente di chiavi di lettura il testo, mentre l'utilizzo del linguaggio filmico all'interno della semiosi letteraria sottolinea la straordinaria, polifonica originalita del racconto di Milan Begović. |

| Sažetak: | Begović's comedy 'American Yacht in the Split Harbour' is a work which still provokes a great deal of discussion. Begović probably decided to write the work after the rumours about the changes of Split people after the three-year stay of American fleet ships in the harbour below Marjan hill. Like other writers, Begović also tackled the theme. The author lists a lot of data from the Split paper the 'Novo doba'. However, the play shows little of the real Split, its singularity, so the play does not give the true picture of Split, except for the atmosphere of typical gossips, feinted play about nobility, and even scorn of those who are better-off. The rest is a typical Meditarranean environment. The author gives several examples of this. The play has considerable deficiencies, the greatest being that everything happens behind the scene, together with the unconvincing reconcilement of Điđeta and Phoebe, so the author concludes that the comedy is "a complete failure" as opposed to his 'Adventurer at the Door' which is an exceptional dramatic achievement. |

| Sažetak: | The paper deals with Begović's first novel 'Dunja u kovčegu' ("A Quince in a Trunk") published in 1921. In this novel too, Begović persues his characheristic artistic preocupations on both the thematic and textual level. On close reading, the novel reveals remarkable variations in literary quality and considerable inconsistencies in evolution of the plot. It is the author's intention, therefore, to highlight both the unmistakable literary qualities of the text as well as to discuss some of the obvious gaps in plausible characher motivation. |

| Sažetak: | Im Artikel werden philosophiche, psychologische und literarhistorische Wurzeln Begović' Auffassung der Frau als auch des Frauenwesens bestimmt. ebenfals wird die Meinung dass Begović beim portretieren der Frauengestalten die Auffassungen des zeitgenössischen philosophichen und psychoanalitischen Denkerns (Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Freud, Weininger) annimmt vorgebracht, aber dass er sich auch diesen Auffassung wiedersetzt. Weiter wird die Art und Weise der Wiederspiegelung Begović' weltanschaulicher Konzepzionen über Antagonismus von Geschlechter in seinem roman 'giga Barićeva' analysiert und die Struktur des romans als polyphonische bestimmt. |

| Sažetak: | Esaminando i processi intertestuali e intermediali in Giga Barićeva, l'autore richiama soprattutto l'attenzione alla prima parte del romanzo ne quale sono rappresentati diversi pretendenti come una serie dei ritratti fatti in diverse technice di pittura. Analizza poi nella penultima parte nella quale il testo e strutturato in rapporto con una delle composizioni di Beethoven per arrivare quindi alla finale del romanzo il quale ha la forma del dramma. Cercando di determinare la compicazioni di queste azioni, l'autore guarda il rapporto di Giga Barićava verso neisse di Joyce e Odissea di Omero, concludendo che i processi intermediali e intertestuali siano di un'importanza estrema per il romanzo di Begović perche non essendo introdotti per un esperimento, ma sono incorporati nella sua struttura e senza di loro non potrebbe neanche essere scritto. |

| Sažetak: | Der erste Schritt der Interpretation führt in den Bereich vergleichender kontextueller Betrachtung, vor allem im Hinblick auf die Beziehungen wzischen Literatur und Musik. Wie manche anderen Autoren des 20-Jahrhunderts (T. Mann, Huxley) versucht Begović, Musik mit sprachlichen Mitteln zu veranschaulichen. Das Wesentliche dabei ist die doppelte Bedeutung des Wortes 'Quartett': es bezieht sich auf die Gattung des Streichquartetts, doch zugleich auf den Unstand, dass die vier - vergleichsweise abstrakt dargestellten - Personen nich nur Liebhaber der Musik sind, sondern auch Liebhaber im Sinne sexueller Erotik. Das Erzählen bewegt sich auf komplexe Weise auf mehreren miteinander verbundenen Ebenen: es stellt den Vorgang des Musizierens dar, die melodischen und rhytmischen Merkmale der aufgeführten Werke, gleichzeitig aber auch die mit der Musik in einer verborgenen Beziehung stehanden Leidenschaften, Sehnsüchte, Hoffnungen und täuschungen der drei Herren und der die Viola spielanden Frau. Die Folgerichtigkeit, mit der hier psychoanalytische Aspekte gleichsam musikalisch verarbeitet werden, sichert dieser Novelle eiine besondere Stelle in der Geschichte moderner Erzählkunst. |

| Sažetak: | Nella sua vasta produzione letteraria, l'autore croato Milan Begović attinse vari elementi dalla sua profonda conoscenza delle letterature straniere. L'influsso italiano, che per veri motivi e preponderante, appare evidente anche in alcune opere teatrali. Ho potato l'esemptio della commedia in atto unico 'Venus victrix' che, oltre a svolgersi nei dintorni di Firenze al tempo di Lorenzo il Magnifico, presenta elementi rimascimentali e, nella sensibilita di alcuni personaggi, ci riconduce ad un certo lirismo dannunziano. Nella tragicomedia 'L'avventuriero davanti alla porta', si evidenziano influssi pirandelliani. Si tratta infatti di una sprta di "teatro nel teatro", che, attraverso alcuni procedimenti dramaturgici e tecnici, nonché l'attribuzione dei ruoli, come pure in certi particolati del testo e nell'attenta analisi psihologica dei personaggi, ci ricorda molto da vicino la struttura del dramma pirandelliano 'Sei personaggi in cerca d'autore', dallo stesso Begović tradotto in lingua croata. Va comunque notato che Milan Begović ha saputo assimilare con molta abilita e maestria scenica l'esperienza ed il tecnicismo di vari autori, ma tutto cio non ha mai prevaricato la spontaneita della sua creazione. |

Tutte le critiche teatrali pubblicate in venti giornali parigini sono concentrate sui tre punti: presentare la vita e la opera di Begović, esporre il contenuto messo in scena del dramma 'Senza il terzo' e la critica fatta agli attori e all'allestimento scenico. Rimane dunque, a noi analizzare l'attegiamento del pubblico francese e della critica teatrale presa nei confroti di Milan Begović, oppure ci rimane di adorare il suo incredibile successo raggiunto grazie alla mesa in scena dei suoi drammi sulla scena mondiale correggendo cosi tutti sbagli e malintesi legati sfortunatamente spessi caso di Begović quando si trattava di comprendere le sue realizzazioni teatrali. |

| Sažetak: | Milan Begovićs unveröffentlichtes Fragment 'Breviarium vitae meae' stellt für den heutigen Leser und Literaturhistoriker ein literaturhistorisches Dokument dar, welches ihm die Einordnung des Autors in den Kreis der Dichter der 'literarischen Décadence' erlaubt. Es zeigt, dass Begovićs literarisches INteresse de rjenigen 'Décadence' gilt, die ihre stärkste AUspr¨gung in den Hauptwerken der französischen, englischen und italienischen 'Décadence'-Literatur erfahren hat. Der Einfluss Joris-Karl Huysmans', Oscar Wildes und Gabriele D'Annunzios ist im 'Breviarum' besonders bei der Gestaltung des amoralischen und hedonistisch-ästhetizistischen dekadenten Helden zu sehen, der in sich Charakterzüge der dekadentet Helden der genannten Autoren vereinigt. Die geistige Verankerung des 'Breviariums' in der 'literarischne Décadence' des 'Fin de siecle' kann auch mit anderen Motiven beleght werden. SO kommt eine zentrale Rolle der 'Femme fragile' zu, die als Opfer des perversen 'Décadents' endet; der Mythos 'Femme fatale', die als erotischen Kannibalismus praktizierende Prinzessin auftritt, füllt die sexuellen Phantasien des Helden aus. |

| Sažetak: | Milan Begović was a very good director. He directed some twenty plays, from Moliere to modern ones, including his own. As a director in Sarajevo, he colsely followed the theatre directing in Europe, and wrote about it. He drew special attention to Carl Hageman's book on drama directing. He greatly copied Hageman's way of directing. The author claims again, using Begović's notes, that Begović used Hageman books. It was through Dragan Buzov that he got Hageman's book on directing Geothe's Goetz. This helped author to get a much better insight into Begović's way of work. Begović greatley accepted Hageman's way of directing, not mechanically, but in the main points. This does not seem to degrade Begović, because this way of directing was usual in 1911. Still, Goetz was not a such a success as it was in Hamburg. |

| Sažetak: | Im Artikel werden Begović's 'Kleine Komödien' (Zagreb 1921) mit einigen thematischen und dramaturgischen Merkmalen zweier Dramtaiker der Wiener Moderne - H. von Hofmannstahl (sog. "kleine Dramen") und A. Schnitzler (Zyklus 'Anatol') verglichen. Dabei ist als besonderes Begović' drmaturgisches Kennzeichen der Wiener Moderne nahestehand die Verwendung des Modells "Theater im Theater" in der Kaprice 'Menuet' (1903/1904) festgestellt worden. Als thematische Richtlinien einiger 'Kleinen Komödien' siind Begović "Renaissanzismus" und "Barockismus" zu verzeichen, was mit Homfannsthals galante Motivik aus der 'Einleitung' zu Schnitzlers 'Anatol-Zyklus' verbunden werden kann. Die bei Schnitzler elegant sordinierte Erotik wird aber bei Begović immer ausdrücklicher, was später in seminen Feuilletons und einigen fast obszönen Sonatten (unter verschiedenen Pseudonimen veröffentlicht) bemerkbar wird. |

| Sažetak: | The thesis on the intertextual of "pirandellism" in Begović's works has been proved by Croatian critics through comparison between Begović's 'Anventurer at the Door' and Pirandello's metatheatrical masterpiece 'Six Persons in Search of an Author'. Adding another contribution to the discussion of this intertextual bond, the paper also considers the possibility of examining, on a larger body of both authors' texts, the extent and the achievements of Begović's interest in his Italian model, in order to establish the existence and the manifestations of some other "debts" of Begović's texts toward Pirandello in terms of motifs, themes, character composition or poetics. On the ground of a comparative analysis of a series of Begović's dramatic and narrative writings, confronted with Pirandello's a doubt is raised on the adequacy of applying the notion of "pirandellism" to the description of the dimension of Begović's attachment to the Italian author. While, on one hand, the explicit thematization of aesthetic problems and the poetical polemics, which can be reputed as essential to Pirandello's best pieces, hardly attract Begović's attention, on the other hand, the veriety of his dialogue with Pirandello's dramatic and narrative work corroborates the supposition of a closer and more prolonged Begović's familiarity with Pirandello's art. Together with the great number of Pirandello's motifs and subjects elaborated by Begović in his dramtic and narrative texts, confirming the Croatian author's sensibility for the crucial problems of European modernism, a particular emphasis is to be put on Begović's acquiring of the fundamental principle of Pirandello's creativity, the poetics of humourism, not only as an aesthetic program, or as a constructive technique, but also as the central ideologeme of Pirandello's literary worlds. |

| Sažetak: | Ad una prima analisi, nella lirica di Milan Begović si riscontrano parecchi motivi italiani. Si nota l'uso frequente di forme metriche italiane ovverossia romanze (la terzina, la sestina, la nona rima, il sonetto, il conetto côauadato, la ballata, la romanza, la pastourelle). Molti sono pure i motti di poeti italiani che precedono i songoli cicli di poesie. Ma ad una piu approfondita analisi si osserve che essi non corrispondono al contenuto vero e proprio delle rispettive poesie, ma vengono usati per riproporre l'atmosfera di ambienti soprattutto rinascimentali italiani, particolarmente cari all'autore. Nell'opera poetica del Begović non si puo parlare nemmeno di una vera interstualita, anche se in un primo momento i referimenti ai poeti italiani sembrano molti. La poesia di Begović rispecchia specialmente immagini pittoriche del rinascimento italiano (Fra Beato Angelico, Botticelli, Raffaello). Le immagini di fanciulle che si aggirano per i boschi inghirlandate di fiori sono di stampo prettamente botticelliano, mentre le figure di ninfe che scono dalle acque rispecchiano il D'Annunzio del 'Primo vere'. Ma Begović e D'Annunzio sono molto diferenti fra loro. Il sensualismo che il lega e profondamente diverso: quello di Begović e piu immediato, quello di D'Annunzio risente del pesante apparto classico-mitologico. Begović arricchisce inoltre i suoi componimenti di immagini musicali a volte legate alla pittura (come p. es. del ciclo di sonetti intitolato 'Musica'), il che contribuisce a dare ulteriore fascino alla sua poesia ed a renderla particolarmente originale. |

| Sažetak: | The author deals with Begović's best known collection of lyric poems, the 'Boccadoro Book'. He set it at the time when the collection appeared. This is a modern canzionere with love themes, treated cyclically, based on old Romanesque poetry, and the love themes are treated in the old fashion. Begović built his canzoniere on the European post-romantic lyric. The author illuminates this with several examples. The canzionere is connected to Vladimir Nazor's 'Love Songs'. He compares Begović to 'Isoato Guttaduro' by D'Annunzio. The author finds differences: both national and in the degree of maturity of the italian and croatian languages, and dressing of his character. In D'Annunzio everything is more meticolous, and his eroticism is mingled with the spiritual and even with the theological aspects of love, while with Begović eroticism is more overt, and he does not care about the Petrarchist and "stil nuovo" concepts. The idealism of old poets of canzonieres, who platonically connected the reality and the idea, is hard to translate into the modern language of flesh or the language of spirit. |
